Evolving Pedagogy in Education Part 1: Focus on Personalized Learning

Personalized Learning has been a highly used term in education for several years. Many schools claim they employ this approach to teaching and learning. In some cases, personalized learning is truly implemented and students experience an individualized approach to learning and in other cases, it may be a term used, but the implementation is hardly actualized.

At 51, we aim to provide as personalized approach as possible, so that each student’s learning is “right sized” and they are not only learning what they need to be learning, but able to spend time on content and projects that interest them.

Our road map through a personalized approach aims to serve all students as individuals. The road map incudes the following elements that help formulate an individualized path for each student.

    Personalized Learning is:

    • Competency based
    • Leverage technology
    • Student-driven
    • Safe
    • Asynchronous when applicable
    • Adaptive
    • Informed
    • Cost-effective
    • Engaging
    • Hands-on
