    Organizational Structure

51 is not a Charter Management Organization (CMO) as that term is commonly understood. 51 is a single nonprofit public benefit corporation governed by one board of directors that directly operates three charter schools: 51 (often unofficially referred to as 51 San Diego), 51 Los Angeles, and Method Summit Academy.

There is no separate management entity, parent organization, or third-party operator that controls or oversees the charter schools. All educational, operational, and financial authority remains with 51’ governing board and leadership team, which is directly accountable to authorizers for performance, compliance, and fiscal stewardship.

51 has never previously charged, and does not currently charge, management fees to its charter schools, nor does it retain a percentage of LCFF or any other categorical funding. All public funds remain within the charter schools and are used exclusively for school operations and student services. Shared operational and administrative costs are paid directly by the charter schools on a prorated basis, using only eligible funding sources (such as LCFF). This assures fairness, transparency, and efficiency.

Any future consideration of an alternative cost-recovery or oversight funding model would be subject to governing board approval, documented policies, and applicable disclosure and approval requirements of the authorizer. All fiscal oversight, reporting, and communication with authorizers is handled directly by the 51 finance team under the direction of the governing board.
